| Early on the morning of Sept. 22 1891, 20 Airships rose slowly from a dusty field on the outskirts of town, to begin a race the likes of which, the world had never seen before or since. The Great International Airship Race Included ships from the Royal Fleet in England, to commercial vessels from Germany. Many American craft were funded by private investors such as PJ Morgan, and entered the fray in shiny new dirgibles. After 12 long days and nights the prize was finally in sight for the remaining ships that had not had mechanical problems or had run out of steam, so to speak. When in the last few miles a sizeable fleet of sky pirate ships dropped down from the clouds, lowering ladders and fiercesome men with rayguns drawn. The one million dollar prize and the first place trophy, dissapeared in seconds... ...Rediscovered recently is the first place trophy from that very race Now listed on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28936042 | |
