| Since when does anyone care about MTV? These are the people who stopped making MUSIC television and started to give us dating shows with uninteresting people - and Pimp My Ride. All instead of MUSIC.
Oh, and they dropped the Ball. The Headbanger's Ball.

| Problem being those who do care.Mindless gaggles of lemmings who suck up every bit of nonsense MTV reports on.I'm worried people may destroy the only subculture I've ever willingly labeled myself with. Then again, they'll probably all swarm BrassGoggles and drop their attempts at steampunk after a bit..but still... | |

| The subculture will NOT die. It will go on, live on, lie low until a new generation comes and picks up the ball. Let the lemmings die, they don't deserve better! I've seen other subcultures die and re-emerge. Well, normally it involves a generation change. Hopefully not such a tasteless one like the change from New Romantic to mall goth! | |

| Well if MTV says so... SUCKERS! Steampunk won't die as long as Steampunks don't spend too much time watching MTV, not building things and making stuff, and sharing what they do with each other. The operative words here are 'make' and 'do'. | |

| Accessories make the outfit, fer sure. Just keep a few "specials" where they don't show. Suprise is the spice of life.
I meant I sort of remember MTV, like I sort of remember college. I've collected a bit of "steampunk is SO dead" comments lately, most penned by wankers complaining about the mass-marketing (?) and lack of DIY left in the genre (like they ever touched a tool besides their own very tiny one).
Bah to MTV in general. Also BAH! to those that won't do anything about something they like: ships in bottles, bird watching or even steampunk. "Get up, stand up" as the old song goes. Let MTV and inert pundits interview each other about the nothingness they share.
As a humorous aside- Some years ago I worked as a tech for a flight simulator company, and the crew lead kept telling me to run wires/cables through the "lightning holes" in the aluminum ribs (between the cockpit interior panels and the outer skin) of the trainer. This WAS in the "Bible Belt", with the characteristic regional dialect(s), and I kept wondering how lightening could make such holes. He really meant "lightening holes", holes made for lightening the airframe.

At least I think so. | |

| ah yes I saw this awhile back and had the same reaction.
I love steampunk and I want it to gain the attention it deserves...but once it goes public and everyone gets into it...they'll twist and distort its true nature...much like many have done as a result of Abney Park.
I love abney park to death....but when they got popular everyone turned steampunk into a genre all about airship pirates.
However, we must be true to ourselves. The genre we attach ourselves to is all about meshing the past with the future, the appreciation of elegant machinery and traditional means of achieving modern fantasies.

MTV can go back to Abrocombie and Fitch or Lidz or wherever they came from. :/ Sorry folks, but "reality" shows and rap vids can just shove it. (sorry for the vulgar)
